Support Medicare Hospice Protection Act of 2008

The Medicare House Protection Act would delay implementation of a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) rule that will effectively cut Medicare payments for hospice care. Earlier this year, CMS announced plans to cut reimbursement rates for hospice by phasing out the budget neutrality adjustment factor that has applied to the hospice wage index since 1997. If implemented, this rule will cut hospice reimbursement by almost $2.2 billion dollars over 5 years, with average hospice reimbursements reduced from current levels by more than 4 percent.
